Looking for Good Food in Louisiana
If you love cooking…and eating! This blog is about doing that and sharing that with you. Everyone thinks of Louisiana as a food meca; however, we eat everything others eat, just seasoned differently…and sometimes cooked a little differently.
This is not a traditional recipe blog, most people don’t generally follow a recipe when they are getting dinner on the table. This is a blog about how to get dinner on the table every night for however many people you have to feed within the budget you have.
In order to get dinner on the table, it also requires some cleaning and organizing. Not a big fan of cleaning; however, it has to be done so you can do the best part…cooking and eating. Organize your prep work on a different day of the week, cut the vegetables and store them in the fridge. That way, you only have to clean the pans/pots used for cooking that night…not all the stuff you used to get ready to cook!
To Recipe of Not to Recipe
You can use a recipe or you can mostly just cook what you have learned to cook over time. When you use a recipe, mark it up; whether you liked it or not, any changes in ingredient quantities, the look of the finished product…etc.
You can organize any recipes you use regularly in a binder, on Pinterest, on notes on your phone. Organize your prepped food in any food container you have or in an old jar as long as it has a lid.
Easy or Quick or Both?
If you like to make easy food most of the time and you want it to be quick, you can do it. Just pre-prep the ingredients beforehand, maybe on Wednesday night or Sunday afternoon. You can also buy pre-prepped ingredients or buy a box or can if you love a particular box or canned ingredient…use it!
Big Family, Small Family, Single?
Family size does not matter much when cooking. Just cook enough servings for everyone to get a portion. If your using a recipe that calls for 8 portions and you are single, cut the recipe down. But, if your cooking something you would sell your first born for…just know you will have leftovers that you can eat during the week or freeze for later.
Meal Planning
One thing that will make it easy for you to cook is to think of 5 or 6 dinners that you would like to eat during the week. Make sure you have what you need on hand. Sandwiches are okay for dinner too! If you don’t mind leftovers or you can freeze what’s left, no great plan has to be made. However, if you are a stickler about not wasting food, like myself, maybe plan a casserole or soup at the end of the week to use up any leftovers. Still no great plan has to be made!
Finally
Get the pans out! Figure out what you want to cook and let’s get going! You can get dinner on the table quickly, easily and painlessly, trust yourself on this one.
After dinner, you can clean and organize the kitchen pretty quickly, because you prepped before you cooked and all you have to do now is put the plates and pans in the dishwasher or wash them up and put them away.
